My 2 Day Better Juice Cleanse

My Juice cleanse is over with. If you’ve been following along with Insta Stories this past Thursday and Friday,  you’ll know I did a 2-day juice cleanse sponsored by Better Juice. This is my second juice cleanse ever, except with my first cold pressed juice cleanse it was 3 days. For those of you who think you could never do one. In the words of Ben Franklin ", you can do anything you set your mind to”.  I juice cleanse to help jump start my fitness goals by weaning myself off all my bad food habit and for a complete mental reset. We are all creatures of habits and in order to create new ones, you have to change your frame of mind. 

The last time I did a juice cleanse I was already 2 weeks into my vegan plant-based diet. Therefore I was working out regularly, drinking lots of water, not consuming alcohol, and eating lots of veggies. I was in the best frame of mind well on my way of creating new habits. Initially, I thought I hadn’t eased into the cleanse but I pretty much did without knowing it. As a result, I didn’t have any negative side effects.


This time around my first day was a bit tougher. Day 1 consisted of me being super gassy, poopy, and experiencing headaches. TMI I know but I have to keep it real with you guys. My diet is not as great as it was last January and all these side effects confirmed that. When I got home from work,  I drank a lot of water and went straight to bed at 8 pm. It was the only way I could silence my thoughts of hot wings and steak.  By day 2 I woke rested, energized, and ready to seize my Friday. I started the morning with my lemon ginger shot and hot water.  I made sure to drink water before and after each juice. This resulted in no gas, food daydreams or mood swings. 

The Juices provided in my cleanse were : 

  • Lemon Ginger Shot (added to warm water first thing when you wake up)
  • Tropical Paradise  (green apple, pineapple, lemon, and mint)
  • Beet it (beet, carrot, apple, ginger, and lemon)
  • Queen Green ( kale, spinach, swiss chars, cucumber, celery, parsley, cilantro, lemon, ginger and jalapeno)
  • The Hulk (kale, celery, apple, lemon, and ginger)
  • Wonder Woman ( Watermelon, pineapple, coconut water, lime, and mint)
  • Popeye ( spinach, cucumber, apple, pear, and lemon)

Doing a juice cleanse the second time around has provided me more insight on my advice for those of you interested in trying one.

  1. Should you do it? yes! if you don't like it after finishing then at least your tried and know you don't.
  2. Should you ease into it or jump right in? If you’re a meat eater gradually cut down on the amount of meat you are consuming leading up to your cleanse. I would recommend a week. Also, increase your water and veggie consumption leading up to it.
  3. When to do it? I still recommend doing it during the work week M-F =).

Thursday Night Eats at Cardinale


Last night’s Instastory adventures featured Liya and I at the media dinner for the new Italian joint Cardinale. With open minds and an empty stomach, we made our way to the Dafoe Building in Victoria Park not knowing what to expect. I always get a little nervous trying new restaurants because I’ve been told (once or twice) that I’m a picky eater. But all my worries disappeared as soon as I opened the door. I felt like I just walked into one of my family gatherings. The atmosphere was lively, Prosecco was flowing, and rich aromas wafted through the air. I felt right at home.

Here’s what we ate.

Not pictured is the delicious PANE (poppyseed and honey foccacia, single origin olive oil, rosemary butter) that looked too good to wait and take a picture of. Sorry guys! But I promise you that you will fall in love with it.   

What a great evening of reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones. Thank you, Jared Kichula, for opening your doors to host us. This is definitely a must dine restaurant just in time for the Fall/Winter season. The contemporary Italian cuisine is delicious, the Italien wine selection is impressive and the staff is very knowledgeable about the menu.

Avocado Toast Recipe

I love avocados and I'm surprised it took me this long to try Avocado toast. Last week I finally made my own version. I kept it as simple as possible so that it can be done in the mornings quickly before work. 


  • 1/2 organic avocado
  • 1 organic Rabbit River Farms vegetarian feed egg
  • 1 slice of  organic Ezekiel 100% sprouted whole grain bread 
  • a dash of Himalayan salt
  • a dash of black pepper
  • a dash of grace Jamaican pepper sauce  
  • 1 tbsp organic grapeseed oil

First thing first!  

1. Add a tablespoon of grapeseed oil to your nonstick frying pan. Heat the pan on medium.  I have an induction stove so it heats up quick. If I'm not careful I can burn whatever's in my pan. 

2. Toast your slice of bread  

3. Crush up 1/2 avocado in a bowl. I like to leave it chunky so I just mash it 3 times. I didn't do this in the picture but I found my avocado kept sliding off my toast. The second time I made it I found it worked better applying it as a spread haha.

4. Crack your egg into a bowl to double check that it's good and then add it to the frying pan. Puncture the yolk so that it spreads. Once the egg white is cooked flip it over to ensure the yolk gets fully cooked. This style of eggs is what Jamaicans call fried egg but I learned not too long ago the more technical culinary term is over hard. 

5. Time to layer. Toast, add the avocado spread, and add your fried egg on top. I wouldn't be me if I didn't sprinkle a bit of Grace pepper sauce to add a little heat.

What did you eat today? While you think about that I'll go ahead first. For breakfast, I had a nice bowl of large oats mixed with steel cut oats, toasted farro, hemp hearts, chia seeds, maple, pecan, cranberries, chocolate, and coconut milk. I just finished eating a kale chicken caesar wrap for my lunch. Later on, when I get home I'll unwind with my shows and a hot bowl of Turkey Chili.

Happy September! Fall weather means the return of leaves changing colors, trench coats, ankle booties, socks and of course comfort food. This past Sunday I got invited to Scopa Neighborhood Italian restaurant's first Festa del Raccolto (Fall Harvest Festival). 

Mastering Anejo's Guacamole

A few weeks ago I ordered the Calgary Cooks recipe book to learn how to make Una Pizza's awesome kale caesar salad. Now I did find the recipe just by googling but I figured trying to cook most of these recipes would be great for my Summer To Do List 🤗 While flipping through the book I saw that there's also a recipe for Anejo'sguacamole. Now if you know me then you know I LOVE ME SOME ANEJO 💁🏾 It's the perfect happy hour patio sessions. Anejo's Guacamole is made fresh to order right at your table side.


The recipe itself is actually really easy there's no way you can mess this up. I will note that as of late I've been buying all my produce organic to make positive strides to an all-around healthier lifestyle. I got all my vegetables from Co-op and the tortillas chips from Community Natural Foods. To be honest I feel like everything being organic is what made a huge impact on the taste. It could just be me but I'm just saying.


Guacamole Recipe


- 1.5 Avocados (refrigerated)**

- 1 TBSP Tomatoes (chopped)

- 1 TBSP Onion (chopped)

- 1 TBSP Cilantro

- 1 TBSP Jalapeños

- 1 TSP Sea Salt

- 1/2 TSP Minced Garlic

- Juice of 2 Lime Wedges


* -1 TSP Habanero Peppers (I love me some spice so I add this, if you're not about that spice life then don't do it)


** I like to refrigerate my avocados a bit before mixing it all together; something about warm avocados doesn't sit well with me LOL
